A Higher Spiritual Concept of the Aryan Race

The problem with nationalism, even ethnic nationalism is that it accords a certain equality between those who are regarded as members of the ethnicity or folk nation. This is a faulty position. Nature does not recognise any such concept as equality. Just as certain races or peoples are naturally dominant and in many ways superior to others so this idea of hierarchy must be extended to individual members of an enthnicity or a folk nation.

Nationalism allows individuals of disparate and dubious quality to enter and move within its ranks. One only has to sit back and watch the numerous numbskulls and thugs who participate in street activism to see that many of these nationalists do not accord with the Aryan type that they espouse and idolise. In comparison to mainland Europe the majority of nationalists have no clear idea of what they are for, only a vague idea of what they are against. Levels of argument both verbal and written are shockingly poor and this enables their enemies to deride them for their lack of education and literacy.

English nationalism only ever seems to enjoy a boost when the indigenous masses feel unempowered and disenfranchised. In recent years with the onset of economic recession and ever increasing levels of migration nationalist groups have enjoyed an upsurge of interest but this interest and support is rather unstable as the masses tend to be rather fickle. One only has to reflect on the reversal of furtunes of the BNP to see that this is true. This is the problem with democracy and mass movements generally: They have a feminine quality to them.

History is not made by mass movements but by individuals of a certain quality. One only has to look at the NSDAP and how the National Socialist movement crumbled in Germany with the announcement of the death of Adolf Hitler. Very few held to the ideals of National Socialism because the majority were fellow travellers who clung to the coat tails of more powerful and better men. All too often nationalists seek validation for their own inferiority by trying to be part of something bigger, something greater than the individual which they can lose themselves within. This is the essence of a mass movement. One sees something similar to today in militant islamism.

Race is the material from which greatness may be moulded but it should not be seen as an end in itself for this is gross materialism. Race is not only a matter of biology but of spirituality for each race has its spirit and each spirit has its race. This is the essence of the Volksgeist. If the race dies then the spirit no longer has a vehicle, an efficient vehicle for its expression in the world of matter. If the racial spirit no longer inhabits a race then the race dies. the two are mutually inclusive. This is why a healthy folk must remain loyal to its spiritual roots, to its Gods. When the Aryan peoples adopted the semitic and alien religion of xtianity something died within them. In returning to our Gods we are attempting to revive that which is dying.

The vast majority of Europeans today are little more than cardboard cut outs of real human beings. Physically, mentally and spiritually out of shape I struggle to refer to these people as Aryans. They lack by and large an Aryan spirit for the Aryan spirit is dying within the European peoples. Most of these people appear to be oblivious to what is happening around them, concerned only about the latest technological gadgets, TV soaps, the next alcoholic beverage or foreign holiday. They have no understanding of who or what they are. When they die their essence will become a temporary shade, earthbound for a while before it dissolves and in time they will be utterly forgotten.

Out of Nordic man must emerge the Sonnenmensch, the Übermensch. This is the Task of the Ages. The enemy of the Sonnenmenschen attempt to do everything in their power to prevent this from becoming a reality so it is the responsibility of those who are awakened, who are not spiritually dead or stillborn to struggle through incarnation after incarnation to achieve the next phase in humanity: to overcome the human: man must overcome himself and become God!

The Arya and their relationship to the Indo-European Caste System

There is a mistaken belief amongst many racialists that European nations constitute racially homogenous units. This is a false understanding as racial anthropologists have been telling us for over 100 years that modern European nations, especially (but not just them) are most certainly not racially homogenous and consist of various sub races of the Europid type. Generally the further north you travel the greater the abundance and quality of the Nordic racial type. The Nordic racial type was originally the dominant type and the transmitter of Aryan culture and language.

"The original speakers of Indo-European must have been Nordic. The archaeological evidence will not support the thesis that the Indo-European language stock had its origin in Northern Europe, although the dominant physical type there can be identified with that of early speakers of Indo-European. This leaves the Corded Ware culture of Upper Saxony and Thuringia to be associated with the original Indo-Europeans.
 "The original population of the Italian Peninsula was mainly of the Mediterranean type, but the dominant type among the Italici was Nordic. The Greek word iris meaning rainbow was used to describe the human eye. It would be very strange indeed if a dark-eyed people had made such a comparison.
"Many plastic representations from Roman sources have survived and these show quite clearly that the dominant Celtic characteristics were of the Nordic kind, even when allowance is made for idealization on the part of the artist.

In those lands where the Aryan was the incoming conquerer the caste system often incorporated non-Aryan elements of the population into a separate and lowly caste. Amongst the Indo-Aryans the non-Aryan population were incorporated into a Sudra caste, although the Brahman, Ksatriya and Vaisya castes were already in existence prior to the invasion of India.

The caste system introduced by Rig in Germanic society was already corrupted from the aryan original for the third caste, the Thralls were obviously non-Aryan slaves that were incorporated into Germanic society. The Gallic and Irish peoples kept true to the Aryan original as their caste system included just priests (Druids), warrior-nobles and cow-herders. The Germanic Jarl caste incorporated both priests and warriors whilst originally these would have been regarded as separate. This is indicative of a prehistoric power struggle between the priestly and noble castes which continued right into modern times in the guise of the struggle between church and state. This would help to account for Caesar's comment:

"The customs of the Germans are very different from those of the Gauls. They have no druids to preside over religious matters, nor do they concern themselves with sacrifices."(The Gallic War, Book 6:21)

It is interesting that the term Aryan (original, Arya) is to be found in the Irish caste system, preserved in the term aire:

"The ceile was the producer, the basis of the entire society. Above them came the warriors and nobles, the flaith, often coming under the title of aire (noble), which is cognate with the Sanskrit word arya, freeman. Then came the professional class, originally the Druids." (The Celts, Peter Berresford Ellis, 1998)
 "For those who for whatever reason wish to resist the idea that the Celtic mythology and religion (as well as culture) is essentially based on Indo-European roots, it might be noted that the first element in the names Ire-land and Ira-n are the same linguistically, and both are related to the Arya-ns of India." (The Book of Ogham, Edred Thorsson, 1992)

Some of the deities of the Irish and Gallic peoples contain the Er/Ar prefix in their names, eg Eremon and Ariomanus which are both cognate with Aryaman, Airyaman and Irmin, and also Eriu, the Goddess of the Aryans who physically embodies the land and sovereignity of Ireland/Eire.

Liberal and politically indoctrinated scholars today in the main would deny Indo-Europeans the right to designate themselves as Aryans but the evidence is there for all to see that to see that to say this term was only used by Indo-Aryans and Iranians is a downright lie.  J.B. Mallory and D.Q. Adams in The Oxford Introduction To Proto-Indo-European and the Proto-Indo-European World state that the term `Aryan` or `Arya` derives from the reconstructed Proto-Indo-European[PIE] term h4eros or h4eryos which has the general meaning of "member of one`s own group" which in itself is almost an admission that it is an ethnic term.

The Hittite ara- means "member of one`s own group, peer, friend". The Lycian arus means "citizens", Old Irish aire "freeman", the Avestan airya and the Sanskrit arya "faithful".  Mallory and Adams state quite clearly  "The evidence suggests that the word was, at least initially, one that denoted one who belongs to the community in contrast to an outsider; a derivative of the word is found in the Hittite ara`[what is] fitting` and natta ara `not right`.

There appears to have been a certain amount of social mobility between the priestly and noble/warrior castes which the producer caste does not appear to have enjoyed. It was possible for those of the 3rd caste to rise to one of the other two but this was generally only recognised in the 3rd generation, in other words in the grandson of someone who had been elevated. (See page 42 of The Indo-Europeans, Professor Jean Haudry)

"Social mobility provides a useful criterion for distinguishing the functions or function-classes from the castes. Celtic society has three function-classes, as we have seen, but only two birth-classes or castes, since a Druid's son may become a warrior and viceo-versa; in this way the caste-border separates the first two function-classes (the elite) from the third, whose position of inferiority is noted by Caesar."

Professor Haudy is here referring to Caesar's statement in Book 6.13 of his The Gallic War:

"In the whole of Gaul two types of men are counted as being of worth and distinction. The ordinary people are considered almost as slaves: they dare do nothing on their own account and are not called to counsels. 
 "Of the two types of men of distinction, however, the first is made up of the druids, and the other of the knights." (Carolyn Hammond translation)

The apparent gulf between the warrior and priestly castes against the masses may be an indication that the priests and nobles were the true Arya, the incoming and conquering dominant Nordic race.

The Problem with English Wodenism

I am sure that the author, Wulf Ingesunnu will not mind me copying it here. It will be of interest to all Germanic heathens in England and the English-speaking world. It places Wodenism within the context of Germanic heathenism and Odinism in general but points out the unique teaching on Wid-Ar the Avenger, the Final Avatar. This teaching has started to spread more widely but remains the innovation and inspiration of Wodens`s Folk. The Celto-Germanic Culture, Myth and History blog attempts to addresss some of the issues of comparative mythology raised by Wulf as there is much in the British and Irish mythologies that have either borrowed from Germanic mythology or share a common scource. By studying these other traditions as I have started to do over recent years we can add to the understanding of our Germanic past.

Odinism is the faith attributed to the Vikings and that era of history, and being so it does not have the problem that English Wodenism has since its revival here in England in 1998 (*). In this post I am going to try to outline a problem that Wodenism has faced since it was revived, and maybe try to see a way forward through overcoming this problem. I feel that it is time to do so since this is not a small problem, but is one that can cause all sorts of difficulties for us as Wodenists.
Being based upon the Viking era Odinism revolves around the same Heathen Religion as the Vikings, who maintained their heathenism long after the Anglo-Saxons had been converted to Christianity, or at least the ruling elite and those that were in power were converted. Wodenism has a more difficult task in that there is far less Heathen Lore left to us than left by the Vikings, and also the main figures of history were Christians. There is some element of heathendom left in figures like Hengest and Horsa, AElla, Penda etc. but all of the later rulers and chieftains were Christians, and their era is much more chronicled than the earlier period. Then there is the problem that the old Danelaw is far more ‘Viking’ in names and even perhaps customs since this area was ruled over by the Danes and more heavily populated by the Danes.
It is very hard for Wodenists to see such figures as Alfred the Great as actually being ‘great’, since they had succumbed to the Christian Faith and left their own Gods. This goes for later figures like King Harold who was a Christian King and although he may have been the ‘last English King’ he held to an alien faith. Don’t get me wrong, I am not knocking these English Kings, but what I am saying is that – ‘how does a Heathen Wodenist honour those people who had left their own faith and upheld an alien faith? I hope people see what I am getting at here, because within Odinism the heroic figures are all Heathens – Ragnar Lodbrok, Harald Hardrada, Eric Bloodaxe etc. etc. – none of whom are Christian kings or rulers. Odinism, when I was in it, honoured Hengest and Horsa, but they were Heathen Saxon Chieftains who could stand side by side with the later Viking Heroes.
This I see as the main problem that we have faced as Wodenists, and this is why I have proposed that we break free of the dogma of sticking to the ‘Anglo-Saxon’ period and accept the Vikings and Norsemen as being the same Blood Kin and also those who still honoured the Northern Gods. This would also help to solve the problem of the eastern part of England which is far more Viking in names and in its makeup. We have to accept that the Germanic & Scandinavian peoples were one and the same blood-stock, and that the Viking invasions were made in order to stem the growing power of the Franks under Charlemagne, a power that was spreading the plague of Christianity into Northern Europe and North-West Europe.
Indeed, as we have started to do within the Woden Folk-Religion, there is a need to take ourselves even further back into pre-history, to the times when the great northern continent of Atalland existed, the last part of this (Dogger Bank) being destroyed by a massive tsunami around 7,000 years ago. To do this we will need to study all sorts of different folklore and legends about these islands, from various different sources, and this means throwing aside the taboo of looking at anything that is not ‘English’. I am here going to give one firm example, and that is of a ‘British’ king called Herla King whose tale is quite well known and the contents not important to this argument. The name Herla King is most certainly not ‘British’ and is a Germanic title, and thus comes down to us from a Germanic source here in England. If we were to throw off the shackles of the theory (that is what it is) of the ‘English invasions’ and accept that there were various tribes of Germanic origin here in England, then we have to accept that some of the most ancient folklore of these islands is also Germanic – even if we had to use the term Germano-Celts.
For far too long people have accepted the idea that the English invaded these islands, which were at the time populated by ‘Celtic Tribes’ and thus the folklore and legends of these islands was purely ‘Celtic’. If we look at the legends that developed on the Scottish borders a lot of them stem from Germanic-Nordic legends, and have been revamped with different names, though the actual legends exist as they were originally. Offa Whitesun developed this in an article in one of the early Wodenist magazines. These certainly need more study since they are relevant to the English Folk.
The ‘Celts’ (or at least their aethlingas) worn the golden torc around their neck, and the torc is made up of twisted gold strands, and would obviously represent a ‘noose’ of some sort, thus hinting at a dedication to the God of the Hanged - the Wolf-God – who we call Woden. Indeed, we have the god known as Gwydion coming down to us from Welsh Lore, and his name would be Wydion since the ‘g’ is silent, and he was a magician-god associated with the Ash-Tree, just as Woden is a magician-god associated with the Ash-Tree. We also have the legend of Lleu who shape-shifts into an Eagle and hangs on the top of a tree – again shades of Woden on the Wolf-Tree. If we ignore these myths and legends we may well be ignoring our own ancient past in these islands. It seems clear that the Britons had an alien Druidic Priesthood over them, one that twisted and distorted their myths to their own ends, but that does not invalidate that there was an Ancient Tradition here in England, an Ancient Tradition that is valid for the English!
There is a current called Tradition or the Perennial Tradition which is based upon the idea that within every culture and tradition there is an underlying ‘universality’ – i.e. that within varying traditions there are certain things that follow a pattern. This is important since it gives us far more scope in finding out our lost tradition because we have access to myths and legends that are not of our own tribal group, but do have the underlying truth in them that can be used to reconstruct what has been lost. If we look at Tolkien’s Mythology he recreates an English Mythology from various different sources, going back to Atalland as the sunken continent, and further back to Beleriand which equates with Hyperborea. This reconstruction comes from non-English sources as well as some stuff that we do have passed down to us.
I have outlined the main problem faced by Wodenism and have also suggested some solutions to the problem, this being that we forget being ‘Anglo-Saxons’ from a certain era and start to build from various eras of our long history in these islands, including the Vikings in our work, since from there we get the only source of our mythology that has been left to us, even though some of it may be distorted through Christian eyes. Why reject such figures as Ragnar Lodbrok since he is the one that will lead the Folk at Ragnarok, as prophesied by the ancient seers? Ragnar Lodbrok is also a Dragon-Slayer, and he marries the daughter of Sigurd, Aslog, whose name translates as ‘Asa-Law’ – ‘Law of the AEsir-Gods’. Maybe the time has come to overcome the barriers that have held Wodenism back, these being the restriction to the ‘Anglo-Saxon’ era, and thus take us forward into the future instead of dwelling in the past.
I have always warned of the futility of promoting any form of ‘antiquarianism’ whether this be Viking (Odinism) or Anglo-Saxon (Wodenism) since this means trying to live in the past rather than studying the past to revive what is good and best for us, and then bringing this into the present time. This is yet another thing that holds back the Northern Faith, since it only ridicules what we are doing, making people see us as ‘freaks’; or ‘weirdos’. I see nothing wrong in dressing in some form of ritual garb based upon the traditions of our Folk, and even using Old English or Old Norse as a ritual language but when this is proposed as an everyday thing it only opens us to ridicule. On this subject Old English or Old Norse would certainly be valid as a ritual language as would the use of Germanic Roots or Aryan Roots, and also (more so) the Ancient Runes. I am not saying this for nothing because I know of people who have suggested we dress up as ‘Anglo-Saxons’ and also those who have suggested we speak ‘Anglo-Saxon’ in our everyday life, but who would understand us then? The Knights of the Spiritual Sword are also of little use, since they hide behind a religion in order to keep away from the trouble, which can only work for so long since any oppressive regime (like we live under today) will attack (both mentally & physically) anyone who tries to break free of the yoke. The oppression of herbalists, healers and many other sections of society by the growing power of the Christian church proves this point, for countless thousands died at the hands of these people and countless thousands were tortured and maimed because they did not follow the line of the Established Church.
I have been reading some of the ideas of Swain Wodening on the failure of Theodism/Wodenism to grow as strong as Odinism/Asatru, and here there are many points that he makes that are valid to this argument. I would recommend people to look at the stuff that Swain Wodening has put out on the subject. Certainly Odinism/Asatru has been going far longer and is much better known than Theodism/Wodenism, but I don’t think that that is the core of the problem. Indeed, it may well be that Odinism will remain far stronger than Wodenism, but I really do not think that matters one jot. Wodenism has to fill a gap in the ‘market’. Neither do I feel that this ‘splits’ Odinism since there is really no single organisation that has the full monopoly, though the Odinic Rite is by far the strongest here in England.
One of the arguments put forward is that Wodenism has had to adopt the Norse god-names and hero-names and change them into Old English, and thus they are not really valid. But there are certain god-names that have come down to us in Old English, and even though they may be portrayed as ‘legendary heroes’ rather than gods, I really do not see the difference, since this is how Snorri Sturlasson portrayed the gods anyway – as men. Anyway, what does it really matter if we use Woden, or Wotan or Odin, or Thor, or Thunor, or Eastra or Ostara? Let us look at the various god-names that are so similar, but from so different traditions, that they are surely from the same source. Are not Eastra, Ostara, Ishtar the same? And what about Nanna and Inanna? They will have different myths attached to them because these have been distorted through various tribal groups being intermingled, and even Indo-European tribes mixing with Semitic tribes, but the underlying myth is there. We have Dana, Danu, Dan, Diana, Don, Idunn, Anu, and other similar-sounding names, and which must come from some common source in the ancient past of our Northern Folk.
Herman the Cheruscan (most likely a Wolsunga) should be just as much a Folk-Hero as Hengest and Horsa, as should Widukind of the Saxons who is of the same Saxon nation as the Saxons in England. Sigemund (‘Victory-World’) or Sigurd (‘Victory-Wyrd’) are both Dragon-Slayers, father and son, the former to the English, the latter to the Norsemen. Balder is Herebeald and Hodr is Heathcyn, each former name being a god, and each latter name being a hero – but what difference does that make? One of the best sources for the translation of Norse names into Old English is Spellcraft by Katherine Herbert; the title is a little vague since it is not about spells, but about Old English Legends. It is available from Anglo-Saxon Books in England.
Wodenism, as revived by Woden’s Folk, developed in a far different way than has been developed by other groups who took this up, and no doubt by groups that will arise in the future. The fundamental difference between the Wodenism of WF (i.e. the Woden Folk-Religion) is that WF is the only group that developed the theme of Wid-Ar the Avenger as the ‘Coming God’, the ‘One Who Returns’ as the new god-force of the Age of Ing. This new god-force (archetype) is that of the Crowned & Avenging Son of the Sun who is Woden (Hanged God) resurrected as the Son of the Sun. This important difference sets us apart, for the Wid-Ar Current (’55-Current’) is the basis of the Woden Folk-Religion at its inner level.
I am certainly not saying that Wodenism in its entirety should adopt the ideas put forward by Woden’s Folk, since this is unique to the Woden Folk-Religion and should remain that way, since there is a need for a Warrior Order and a Spiritual Order that will prepare the way for The Hooded Man/The Last Avatar who will arise here in England according to Wodenic Prophecy. I am not certain how many Wodenist groups actually exist here in England now, but there is no doubt some form of growth, even though it will certainly not match that of Odinism which has been around far longer here in England. In regard to this I have stated that I see this in the light that we are all part of the same struggle, and Woden’s Folk has co-operated with Odinists on at least one occasion (when Orange wanted to put up a mobile phone mast near to the White Horse Stone) and we share a common religion even if there are ‘tribal’ differences. Whatever the case Woden’s Folk will not change its stance on the need for a new archetype for the new world-age, and that our form of Wodenism was set up to prepare the way for the Last Avatar and Incarnation of Woden (as Wid-Ar) here in England.
Woden’s Folk has now moved to being the Woden Folk-Religion publishing outlet, and through the Wulfinga Blogs we have begun to disseminate new ideas within Wodenism. WF has not become fully inactive since the other side of our work is that of being a Teaching and Training School - we have already held a Training Moot for select Wodenists. We shall continue to evolve new ideas and to promote these ideas, as well as increasing our teaching and also our training of the individual within the Woden Folk-Religion and also evolve future Wodenist Gatherings which will be there for certain ritual gatherings and magical gatherings. In the past WF held national activities called The Spirit of Revolt in which WF Hearths and Lone-Wolf Activists formed part of a national ritual designed for a specific magical purpose – and we shall still use such activities into the future.
In time, when there are far more Woden Initiates who are fully aware of the inner truth behind the Woden Folk-Religion we may be able to offer one-to-one teaching and training into the Cult of Woden. But the immediate priority is to disseminate our work to as many people as we can, so that the Woden Folk-Religion becomes more understood, The secret lies in ‘reading between the lines’ and understanding the hidden meanings that we give though our work, and as time goes on individuals will understand what we are really saying, and that the symbolism we use is not so ‘cranky’ as our critics would have you believe. Only those who can see through the smokescreen put up by our critics will be able to understand what we are teaching.
The development of the Ar-Kan Rune-Lag is also of vital importance to the Woden Folk-Religion since it will eventually form the core of our work and teaching. Through the runes, and new understandings of the runes, there will arise a whole teaching method suited to future generations to adopt and develop further – because the runes are certainly not static but develop as we develop the Cult of Woden.
Since WF promotes such ideas as The Hooded Man which has been taken from the Robin of Sherwood series in both book form and the TV series, we are open to a good deal of criticism. Both Wikipedia (*) and RationalWiki have made some strong criticism, mainly in the form of mickey-taking, which is something that we have to accept as part of having adopted a stance that is different than the mass of people can accept. In regard to this we try to point out to people that it is the mythical and symbolic meanings that count, and not the actual TV series as a fictional work. That is, neither the author nor the director, nor anyone else for that matter, wrote or directed the series as we interpret it. This suggests that this type of work is done at an unconscious or subconscious level, which is why few people can understand its inner meaning.
(*) It is perhaps significant that the Woden’s Folk entry has now been removed altogether from Wikipedia, the reason for this not being known at the moment. There are also various other sites which make criticism of Woden’s Folk in one way or another, but this can be expected when we oppose this rotten system.
We have used the term ‘religion’ throughout this post (and our others) since it is the most well used term, and it means ‘to bind’ stemming from Greco-Latin. However, there is some logic in dropping this term in favour of the German bund which also means ‘to bind’ and which also comes up in Old English with the same meaning. This term is where we get bundle, bind, band etc. but the term bund covers a much wider set of ideas. This needs some careful thought and reference to those who have more knowledge of German (like Wotan’s Krieger), but the term Woden Bund could perhaps replace the Greco-Latin word ‘religion’ and since Wodenism is more of a life-style and incorporates far more than just a Sunday prayer, perhaps this would suit our work better. Food for thought!

The Aryans and the Farmer Caste

The typical image of an ancient Aryan is that of a horse riding warrior equipped with a battle axe, sweeping across the Eurasian steppes in search of conquest and plunder. Whilst that image does have a certain validity it does not tell the whole story. The Aryan as well as being a consummate warrior was also the creator of agriculture. If we are to accept the hypothesis of Colin Renfrew (Archaeology & Language. The Puzzle of Indo-European Origins, 1987) then agriculture began in Anatolia, his favoured Urheimat of the Aryan peoples and spread in waves of advance westwards. Anatolia of course was the homeland of the Aryan Hittites, a mighty and mysterious people who were only to be discovered as being Aryan in 1915 when Czech linguist  Bedřich Hrozný managed to decipher the tablets of cuneiform inscriptions from Hattusa. Not surprisingly the Hittites were demonised by the jews in their biblical stories and that demonisation of the Aryan has continued right down to the present time.

Some scholars, notably those who seek to interpret the history of the Aryan peoples using biblical exegesis argue that the Germanic peoples are descended from the Hittites (In Search of The Great German Nation. Origins and Destiny, 2001, Craig M. White). Referring in part to the work of Professor Vere Gordon Childe and Professor Laurence Austine Waddel, White states:

"These battle-axe Nordics of Europe, he claims, came from the southeast-the Caucasus region. The iron cross and the Swastika sun-cross, both Indo-European emblems, featured very prominently in Hittite art and daily life. The double-headed eagle, another Indo-European or Aryan symbol, featured also prominently as did the extended arm salute."

The Hittites main deity was the thunder God Teshub or Tarhun whose main weapons were the axe or thunder hammer, a flashing trident, a long two-edged sword and the thunderbolt. Like other Aryan thunder Gods His vehicle of choice was a chariot. Like Thunor and Indra He was famed for His slaying of a serpent, Illuyanka.

The ancient Aryan peoples operated a caste system and this system, albeit now degraded has continued to exist in modern day India. Originally the caste system was a division of Aryan society by function; priest, warrior and farmer-producer and one can see echoes of this in the Rigsthula although it had become distorted by the time it came to be written down and incorporated into the Elder Edda of Saemand the Wise. The fact that the Indo-Aryan and Germanic caste systems recognised a farming caste demonstrates how ancient a concept agriculture was to the Aryan peoples. Often when we hear the term Aryan we immediately think of the horse riding Ksatriya warriors but they are only part of the picture.

An ancient symbol of the Aryan peoples was the five-pointed star, the Pentagramme which is associated both with the Goddess Venus and Lucifer, the Light-Bringer. It has a further association with the plough. L.A. Waddell in his A Sumer-Aryan Dictionary, 1927 states that the Ar, Ara, Hara or Harri (Aryans) are "Pictured by the Plough sign (Ar, Ara)".

  "This title Ar, Ari, Arya, or "Aryan", appears, as I have shown, to have originally designated the Early Aryans as "The Ploughmen" from the Sumerian Ar, Ara, "plough", which is now disclosed as the source of the Old English ear, "to plough, to ear the ground" and of "ar-able", etc.[See Ar, "plough" in Dict]. The Aryans are now seen to have been the traditional inventors of the plough and of the Agricultural Era of the World; and the sense of Ara or "the exalted ones" appears to have been used for this title when this gifted race became the rulers of the various aboriginal tribes-the Sumerian also gives the plough sign the meaning of "raise up, exalt" as the secondary meaning of ploughing as "the uplifting" of the earth (see Ara, exalt, in the Dict)."

Edred Thorsson writing in ALU, a Advanced Guide to Operative Runology  (2012) speculates that the "symbolic complex" of the Anglo-Northumbrian Runes Calc-Stan-Gar may have its ultimate origins in the Aryan North Iranian tribe of Alans. Apparently the Romans settled a military contingent of Alans in northern England and southern Scotland. He draws a link between this tribe and the English surname of  `Allen' or `Alan`. He states that the Alans are closely related to the Scythians who had a myth reported by Herodotus in the 5th century that at the origin of their tribe there fell from the sky a plough and yoke, a battle-axe and a cup.

These three symbols of the plough, battle-axe and cup represent the original three Aryan castes. the plough therefore has as much to do with the Aryans as does the battle-axe, and food production is a vital necessity for our people. There has always been a strong bond between the blood of the Germanic peoples and the soil that they have made their own and thus the plough as symbolised by the pentagramme or Drudenfuss should be sacred to us.

An Aryan Oasis in a World of Chaos

It is my intension to carry out a study of a little known Aryan tribe that dwell in North-eastern Pakistan on the border with Afghanistan. What is remarkable about this hardy little tribe, known as the Kalash is the strong existence of Nordic features: pale skin, blue eyes, fair hair and long skulls. In addition to their Nordic physical traits they have stayed true to their indigenous Gods which show similarity to Iranian and Hindu pantheons. In particular they worship Indra. On meeting Alexander the Great in the 4th century BCE they pointed out the similarity between their Gods and those of the Greeks!

This is truly an Aryan racial and spiritual oasis in the midst of a chaotic world. Long may their customs, their beliefs, their culture and their blood be maintained and flourish! May Indra-Thor bless them and protect them from the vicious lunatics who seek to destroy them or convert them to their desert slave religion!

The Serpent Slayer in Aryan Mythology

The archetype of the dragon or serpent slayer is a common one in Germanic and Aryan mythology.  Amongst the Germanic peoples we have many stories of such heroes, the better known ones of course being Siegfried/Sigurd and Beowulf. In the ancient Anglian kingdom of Northumbria we have a rich store of dragon and serpent tales, eg in Northumberland the Laidley Wyrm of Spindleston Heugh, the Wode Wyrm of Linton, near Jedburgh the Longwitton Dragon and the Dragon of Tynemouth Priory. In County Durham the Lambton Wyrm and the Sockburn Wyrm. In the North Riding of Yorkshire the Nunnington Dragon of Helmsley, the Dragon of Sexhowe Mound near Hutton Rudby and the Serpent of Handale. In the West Riding the Wyrm of Well near Ripon and the Wantley Dragon of Wharncliffe Chase. In the East Riding the Kellington Serpent.

This is not intended to be an exhaustive list of such tales but it demonstrates that just in the North East of England alone there is a rich hoard of serpent lore and this reflects England as a whole and other parts of the Germanic and Aryan world. According to Joyce Tally Lionarons in The Medieval Dragon. The Nature of the Beast in Germanic Literature (1998) there is even a Proto-Indo-European verb, *ghen to denote the action of slaying a dragon so we may infer from this that the entire concept goes back to Indo-European prehistory. The correct native English term is worm or wyrm from the Old English wyrm. Dragon however is ultimately a Latin word from which the Old English draca is derived. The Old Norse ormr is very similar to wyrm. These terms can be used for either 'serpent/snake' or 'dragon'.

Of course ultimately these dragon or serpent slaying heroes may be traced back to *Thunaraz in the Germanic world and His Indo-Aryan cognate Indra.

"I WILL declare the manly deeds of Indra, the first that he achieved, the Thunder-wielder. He slew the Dragon, then disclosed the waters, and cleft the channels of the mountain torrents.
"He slew the Dragon lying on the mountain: his heavenly bolt of thunder TvaStar fashioned." (Rig Veda, Hymn XXXII 1,2,  Ralph T.H. Griffith translation)

If the Eddas of course we have a number of encounters between Thor and the Midgardsorm, the world serpent who will be the bane of Thor at Ragnarok but who in turn will be slain by Him.

What does all this serpent slaying indicate? Of course we have the traditional interpretation of this as a nature myth of the eternal struggle between light and darkness, day and night and on a certain level this is correct but there is another interpretation which was proposed by the emminent scholar Professor Laurence Austine Waddell. Aryan man thousands of years ago was involved in the eradication of an evil serpent cult which was lunar in type and involved wholscale human sacrifice. Many of the stories contained within the Aryan mythologies describe battles between an incoming and dominant Nordic people who sought to wipe out this cult which it is important to understand was matriarchal, matrilineal, lunar and cthonic. Eventually the patriarchal solar religion of Nordic Aryan man dominated those civilisations which he planted. In The Rise of Man in the Gardens of Sumeria. A Biography of L.A. Wadell  (2009) Christine Preston restates the 19th century hypothesis that "human society in the period of 7,000 to 2,000 BC was matriachal, and that a mother-cult with the 'figure of a goddess and dying god' was widespread". She refers to the work of the Lithuanian scholar Marija Gimbutas who speculated that human societies from the Near East to Western Europe were originally matrilineal (The Gods and Goddesses of Europe, 1974 and The Living Goddesses, 1999.) Traces of this matrilineal society may be found amongst the non-Indo-European Basques, Iberians and Picts.
